About the Founder - David Chaney
David Chaney grew up in Houston and attended the University of Houston main campus where he graduated with a BS Psychology degree. David had to work and pay his own way through college and he started NuKote home painting business at the age of 19 for this reason. David continued running his growing painting and construction company after graduation.
NuKote grew rapidly. NuKote has completed many commercial projects including restaurants, lease space build-outs, church repairs, and specialty repairs of historical homes . . . as well as many residential home projects. During this time, David purchased a vintage red 1965 Mustang convertible that was his pride and joy.
In 1995, David was driving his Mustang and was in the Accident that changed his life forever. He was driving the Mustang on I-10 when a ball joint broke and resulted in an auto accident. He broke several neck vertabrae. Due to the fractured neck vertebrae, he was paralyzed on his right side and was unable to walk or talk. David was in intensive care at Methodist Hospital for 3 months; he was an inpatient at TIRR for another 6 months. Doctors did not know if he would be able to walk. He continued with therapy as an outpatient for another 12 months. During this time he had plastic vocal cords implants so he could talk again, but it is still difficult for him to speak loudly. His family rented his house while he was in The Methodist Hospital so he wouldn't lose it.
Through hard work and determination David gradually regained the capability to walk again, but it is difficult, because he doesn't have much strength in his right side and doesn't have a strong right hand grip. Some of his friends encouraged him to get on Social Security Disability. David would not hear of it. Always a hard worker ever since he was 19 and started NuKote, he gradually rebuilt his business.
David has many references, but some of his best known are the guys and girls at Sherwin-Williams. They always recommend him if anyone asks for a contractor referral.
